Check tire tread depth
WARNING
Riding with heavily worn
tyres
Risk of accident due to poorer
rideability
If necessary, replace the tyres
before the legally specified
minimum tread depth is
reached.
Park motorcycle, ensuring that
support surface is firm and
level.
Measure tire tread depth in
main tread grooves with wear
indicators.
NOTICE
Tread wear marks are integrated
into the main grooves on every
tire. If the tire tread has worn
down to the level of the marks,
the tire is completely worn. The
locations of the marks are indi-
cated on the edge of the tire, e.g.
by the letters TI, TWI or by an
arrow.
When the minimum tread depth
is reached:
Replace the worn tires.

Wheels

Affect of wheel sizes
on suspension control
systems
The wheel sizes play a major role
in the ABS and ASC/DTC han-
dling control systems. The di-
ameter and width of the wheels
stored in the control unit have
particular significance as the ba-
sis for all necessary calculations.
A change in these sizes resulting
from conversion to wheels not
installed as standard equipment
can seriously affect the control
efficiency of these systems.
The sensor rings required for de-
tecting wheel speed must also
be compatible with the particular
control systems fitted and must
not be interchanged.
If you want to equip your
motorcycle with different wheels,
please contact a specialist
service facility, preferably a
BMW Motorrad retailer. In some
cases the data stored in the
control units can be adapted for
the new wheel sizes.
