Airbag Systems
A
can determine the on/off status of the passenger
airbag system from the indicator lamp on the over-
B
head console.
> Please see chapter "Automatic deactivation of
C
the passenger airbag" on page 56.
D
If the front passenger airbag is turned on, the PAS-
E
SENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator light will go out and
the PASSENGER AIR BAG ON indicator light is con-
F
tinuously illuminated when the ignition is switched
on and/or the engine is running. If the PASSENGER
G
AIR BAG OFF indicator light stays illuminated, the
H
passenger airbag will not deploy.

K
Improper use of the front passenger seat can unin-
tentionally impair operation of capacitance occupant
L
sensing for the passenger's airbag.
M
If the electrical capacitance of an adult on the pas-
senger's seat is not properly maintained, the pas-
N
senger's airbag may be switched off.
O
e Always make sure that there is nothing on the
P
front passenger seat that could cause the ca-
pacitance occupant sensing system to judge that
Q
the seat is occupied by a person when it is not.
e Never use cushions, pillows, blankets or similar
R
items on the front passenger seat. The additional
S
layers prevent the capacitance occupant sensing
T
for the front passenger seat from accurately
measuring the capacitance of the child restraint
U
system and/or the person on the seat and thus
V
keep the advanced airbag system from working
properly.
W
e Never place or use any electrical device (such as
X
a cell phone, tablet, laptop, CD player, electronic
games device or power inverter) on the front
Y
passenger seat if the device is connected to the
Z
cigarette lighter socket. Such device can
56
influence the capacitance registered by the ca-
pacitance occupant sensing for the front pas-
senger seat, so that incorrect information is
provided to the airbag control unit.
Risk of serious personal injury or death due to the
passenger airbag triggering unintentionally.
e If the front passenger seat gets wet, dry it
immediately.
e If liquid soaks into the front passenger seat, this
Improper Use of Front
can keep the airbag system from working prop-
Passenger Seat
erly and may, for instance, deactivate or activate
the passenger frontal airbag. If this happens, the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF/ON indicator light
and the airbag warning light on the instrument
cluster may come on.
e If liquid is pooled on the front passenger seat, but
has not soaked in, this may also keep the ca-
pacitance occupant sensing for the front pas-
senger seat from working properly and cause the
passenger frontal airbag to be enabled (turned
on), even though there is a properly installed
child restraint system on the seat. Wet towels or
other wet things on the seat cushion can have
the same effect.
Improper use of the front passenger seat can unin-
tentionally impair operation of capacitance occupant
sensing for the passenger's airbag.

passenger seat is not properly maintained, the

passenger's airbag may be switched off.
e Select an upright seat position, and do not sup-
port weight on the armrests or center console, or
lean out of the window while driving.
e Always keep feet positioned on the floor in the
footwell while driving. Do not put feet on the
dashboard or the seat area.

WARNING
Seat belts only offer protection when the backrest is
positioned at an upright seating angle and the belts
are properly positioned on the body.
e Do not operate the vehicle with the driver or
passenger backrests excessively reclined.
Modify vehicle to accomodate
persons with disabilities
Because modifications to your vehicle could com-
promise your advanced airbag system, please call 1-
800-PORSCHE prior to having your vehicle
modified.
