24 . Spectrum RX I Getting Started Guide
11. When the bolts have been moved to their storage positions, the optical
base should float on the vibration dampers and should move slightly
when you push down gently on the clear plastic purge cover.
12. Loosen the shipping clamp on the scan mirror by turning the bolt
counterclockwise (Figure 5). Loosen the bolt until it no longer turns easily
and the scan mirror becomes free to move.
Unscrewing this bolt raises a clamp that holds the scan mirror. You might
notice the scan mirror swing free when you have unscrewed the bolt
sufficiently. The bolt must protrude by at least 1.5 cm.

Changing the Desiccant

The optical system of the Spectrum RX I is purged at the factory, then sealed under
a clear plastic purge cover. This protects the KBr both in the beamsplitter and in
the sample compartment windows from being damaged by humidity. Four
replaceable bags of desiccant maintain the purge.
Re-usable desiccant packs are also available for the Spectrum RX I. The part
number is 0499 4725, and 2 packs are required for each instrument. For more
