4.5.3 Surveying the Pipe
1. Measure the pipe circumference to an accuracy 1/16 in. ( 2 mm).
IMPORTANT: Do not use a calculated value or a nominal value for the circumference.
2. Tightly wrap the layout tape around the entire pipe and line up the edges. Use the entire tape for best results.
Using the tape as a template guide, mark a line all the way around the circumference of the pipe.
3. Line up the zero scale mark of the layout tape at the desired transducer location (e.g., 3 or 9 o'clock) for the first
transducer. Mark a line ( origin line ) at least 12 in. (30 cm) long.
