2.1 Major Subsystems

The device consists of the following modules:
2.1.1

Charger

The charger supplies a stabilized voltage to the device at 176Vdc ± 2V.
2.1.2

Batteries

The batteries are connected to the charger output and supply voltage during power
failures. Batteries are housed within the UPS.
2.1.3

Inverter

The inverter receives a DC voltage from the charger or batteries and supplies a
regulated, frequency-stabilized, AC voltage (power). The inverter incorporates an
IGBT transistorized bridge, driver, (PC968 card), an L-C filter circuit, isolated output
transformer circuit, current transformer, PC075 card, and a PC871 PWM control card.
2.1.4

Static Switch (ST/ SW / BYPASS)

The ST/SW/ bypass transfers the load to the mains if the inverter is unable to supply
the demand (e.g., excess current, inrush current on connecting the load, inverter
malfunction, etc.). To ensure correct operation of the static switch, the inverter is
synchronized with the mains in both, frequency and phase. The Static Switch
includes a PC690 card and RA101, RA102 relays.
2.1.5

Control System

The control system performs the following functions:
• Tests input, bypass, inverter, battery voltage, output current, input/output
signal frequency, and temperature.
• Controls the inverter and the bypass contactor (RA101) and manages the
static switch and charger voltage during battery tests.
• Controls the ALARM interface.
