To connect to the switched interface CLI you need:
•
a computer with an available communications port,
•
a RJ-45 to DB-9 cable included in your FortiGate package,
•
a VT100 terminal emulation software such as HyperTerminal for Windows.
Note: The following procedure describes how to connect to the CLI using Windows
HyperTerminal software. You can use any VT100 terminal emulation program.
To connect to the switched interface CLI

Connect the RJ-45 to DB-9 cable to the communications port of your computer and to
the COM port (management interface) of the switched interface.

Make sure that the FortiGate-4000 unit and the switched interface is powered on.

Start HyperTerminal on your management computer, enter a name for the connection,
and select OK.

Configure HyperTerminal to connect directly to the communications port on the
computer to which you have connected the RJ-45 to DB-9 cable and select OK.

Select the following port settings and select OK.
Bits per second 9600
Data bits
Parity
Stop bits
Flow control

Press ESC to log into command line utility mode.
The command line utility prompt is >.

Type ? and press Enter to list all available commands.
The FortiGate-4000 switched interface module CLI commands can be used to change
the configuration of the switched interface module. These commands consist of a
short command name (for example, pl for port link status) and keywords. If the
command displays information about or changes a setting on a switched interface
port, the command includes a port number. Port number can have the following
values:
