1.5.1 SAN environment
The key purpose of a SAN (Storage-Area-Network) environment is to allow sharing of
storage connected to the switch among the various clients connected to the switch to
take advantage of collaborative workflows and to achieve storage purchase
efficiencies To set up and manage read/write access to the shared storage volume
and keep track of metadata, i.e., what files were written where, when, how much was
written, by who, etc, ExaSAN's SANit SAN management software, as well as others,
along with SWF16 (MDC function) is required to keep order.

1.5.2 Hardware
Accusys recommends getting the advice from your reseller of distributor regarding
setting up the SAN to achieve the objectives you are looking for
1. Computer for clients, running the editing, finishing, etc., applications you will use.
Accusys recommends HP Z series, Dell workstations or Apple MacPro workstations.
WARNING:
The MDC is very important in a SAN configuration. If the Metadata
stored in the MDC is lost or damaged, access to data stored in SAN
storage will be lost.
2. Storage for ExaSAN. We recommend A12S2-PS for speed, capacity, scalability, and
rackmount applications. We recommend B08S2-PS for speed, small footprint, or
transportable considerations.
