Raising the Lifigate
(CONI)
New Vehicle "Break-In"

sciousness
and even death.
If
you
must drive with the liftgate
open:
Make sure all windows are shut.

on your heating or

dangerous to drive
with the liftgate open. Carbon
cooling system to its highest
speed with the setting on
BI-
LEV
(Bi-Level) or
UPPER.
That wiIl force outside
air
into
your vehicle.

If
you
have
air
vents on or under

Your modern Pontiac doesn't need
an elaborate "break-in." But it will
perform better in the long run if
you follow these guidelines:
Don't drive at any one speed-
fast or slow-for the first 500
miles (804
km).
Don't make full-
throttle
starts.
Avoid making hard stops for the
first 200 miles (322
km)
or so.
During this time your new brake
linings aren't yet broken in. Hard
stops with new linings can mean
premature wear and earlier
replacement. Follow this
"breaking-in" guideline every

time you get new brake linings.

Vith the ignition key in the ignition switch,
ou can turn the switch to five positions:
Lccessory: An "on" position in which
ou can operate your electrical power
ccessories. Press in the ignition switch
s you turn the top of it toward you.

position in which you
an remove the key. This locks your
teering wheel, ignition and transaxle.
I f f Unlocks the steering wheel,
pition, and transaxle, but does not
end electrical power to any accessories.
Jse this position if your vehicle must be
lushed or towed, but never
try
to push-
t a r t your vehicle. A warning chime will
"ound if you open the driver's door
when the ignition is off and the key is in
the ignition.
