Operation

4.4.1
Introduction
Normally, the interpreter desk starts up when the CCU
is switched on. First, the desk shows a screen that
informs about its hardware and software versions. For
example:

Release: X.XX.XXXX/X.X/X.X
The DCN
After a number of seconds, the operational mode is
entered automatically if the desk has been programmed.
For example:

The operational mode is the default mode for the
interpreter desk. In the operational mode, the desk is
divided into two main working sections: the listening
section and the speech section. The listening section -
the left side of the interpreter desk - includes
headphones and loudspeaker monitoring facilities for
listening to the floor and interpretation channels. The
speech section - the right side of the interpreter desk -
includes controls for the outputs.
If the desk has not been programmed, it shows the
following screen to indicate it is not installed:
Desk not installed
The DCN
A 'not installed' desk cannot be put in the operational
mode. It first must be programmed (see section 4.5).

4.4.2
Operational procedures
4.4.2. 1
Introduction
To cater for circumstances where the original floor
language is either well-known or less well-known, two
different operational procedures can be used:
Normal interpretation (see figure 4.10).
Relay interpretation (see figure 4.11).
4.4.2.2
Normal interpretation
In the normal interpretation operation procedure (see
figure 4.10), where the original floor language is familiar
to all interpreters, they will listen to the original floor
language for interpretation. The translations are then fed
to the language distribution channels.
