DGT DISTRIBUTED GENERATION TRIP CONTROL SYSTEM – INSTRUCTION MANUAL

Introduction

The DGT Distributed Generation Control System is a wireless communication system
designed to transfer Trip Status signals between a Utility's substation or recloser site and
Distributed Generation locations. The DGT system supports point to multipoint
communication over distances up to 30 miles and accommodates up to 6 Distributed
Generation locations. There are three main products in a DGT System, the DGT-U, DGT-D
and DGT-R
DGT-U is installed by a Utility at the substation or recloser. It transfers trip signals to
remote DG sites and receives status notification back from each, after a trip operation has
been completed.
DGT-R is a repeater unit installed by the Utility at or near the Utility substation, to
coordinate wireless communication between the DGT-U/DGT-R and the DGT-D(s).
DGT-D is installed at the Distributed Generation site. It receives the trip signal over-the-air
from the DGT-U and outputs the status to the user's breaker device. The DGT-D also
accepts a connection from the user's breaker equipment that confirms the trip status back
to the DGT-U.
At the core of all DGT units is a wireless DGT transceiver. The DGT transceivers are
frequency hopping; spread spectrum radios designed for license-free operation in the 902-
928 ISM band. The 902-928 ISM band is license-free throughout North America. The DGT
transceivers employ the latest Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology to provide highly
reliable long distance communication.
Before attempting to install or use this device, it is imperative that all caution and danger
indicators in this manual are reviewed to help prevent personal injury, equipment damage,
or downtime. The following icons are used to indicate notes, cautions, and dangers.
