SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

Every Month -
1. Check to make sure the transformer is plugged in and
that the 'Battery Ready' or 'Charge Required' signal
light is on.
2. Test the system operation. See Page 5.
3. Carefully open the battery box.

Troubleshooting

SYMPTOM
The sump is empty and the
switch is in the down position,
but the pump won't shut off.
Pump won't run.
Motor hums but pump
won't run.
Pump runs but pumps very
little or no water.
Pump cycles too frequently.
For parts or assistance, call Simer Customer Service at
PROBABLE CAUSE(S)
Defective Float Switch.
Defective Control Panel.
Float control Switch is hung
up and can't swing through
it's entire arc.
Loose electrical connection.
Defective battery or battery is
not fully charged.
Defective battery or battery is
not charged enough.
The check valve, between the
primary pump discharge and
the backup pump, is not
installed properly or not
functioning correctly.
Obstructed anti-airlock hole.
The pump discharge pipe is
obstructed.
The discharge pipe length or
height is too long for pump's
capacity.
The battery is not charged
properly or is defective.
The positive and negative
wires are reversed on battery.
Tether length is too short on
the automatic float switch.
The check valve, between the
primary pump discharge and
the backup pump, is not
installed properly or not
functioning correctly.
Excessive water is coming into
the sump pit.
Electrical Shock Hazard. Unplug the sys-
tem and disconnect the battery before servicing any
system components. Check for corrosion of the battery
wires and for cleanliness of the battery posts. Clean the
posts and replace the wires as needed. Reconnect all
wires and test the system.
Every Four Years -
1. Replace the Deep Cycle Marine Battery.
2. Record this date in your owner's manual.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Disconnect the float switch from the control panel.
If the pump stops the float switch needs to be replaced.
If the pump does not stop, replace the control panel.
Check that the float switch is free to swing up and down
through it's entire arc.
Check all of the connections.
Check for a low or defective battery.
Check for a low or defective battery. Confirm positive and
negative wires are connected correctly.
Make sure a check valve is installed and functioning between
the primary pump discharge and Backup Sump Pump
discharge pipe.
Clean out the anti-airlock hole in the pump body.
Check for an obstruction in discharge pipe.
See Table III for pumping heights. Increase pipe size.
Check for a low or defective battery. An extended power
outage may have depleted the battery.
Reverse the positive (+) and negative (-) wires.
The correct tether length is 3-1/2". Adjust the tether length
accordingly.
The main check valve located between the discharge of
primary pump and the Backup Sump Pump tee is not
installed or working properly. Install or repair as required.
Confirm the check valve is installed with the arrow
pointing "up". If the check valve is installed backward,
replace it with a new one.
