VALVE SPRING RETAINER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
• Do not remove the valve spring retainers while the
REMOVAL
Push down and slide the valve spring retainer [1] to the
side so that the valve stem slips through the hole at the
side of the valve spring retainer.

INSTALLATION

Hold the valve so that the valve will not drop.
Push down and slide the valve spring retainer [1] to the
side so that the valve spring retainer is hooked the
valve spring groove at the side of the valve spring retainer.
CYLINDER HEAD/VALVES INSPECTION
CYLINDER COMPRESSION CHECK
Remove the spark plug (page 3-8).
Attach a commercially available compression gauge [1]
to the spark plug hole.
Pull the starter grip [2] forcefully to measure stable
cylinder compression.
CYLINDER COMPRESSION:
0.59 MPa (6.0 kgf/cm
CYLINDER HEAD WARPAGE
Clear off any gasket material from the cylinder head
surface.
Check the spark plug hole and valve areas for cracks.
Check the cylinder head warpage using a straightedge
[1] and thickness gauge [2].
SERVICE LIMIT: 0.10 mm (0.004 in)
If the measurement is more than the service limit,
replace the cylinder head.

valve will drop into the cylinder.
