MODBUS/JBUS RTU PROTOCOL UPS NETWORK COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

1.1
General features
This manual describes the system used for communication between UPSs (or MSS) in the HIPULSE E and the Building
Management System (BMS), through networks employing the standard MODBUS/JBUS RTU protocol (in accordance
with the specifications provided in the document on the subject, which may be downloaded from the MODICON site at
http://www.modicon.com
). Please refer to this document for all information not supplied in this manual.
NB 1:
In this document and in the menu windows appearing in the UPS Operator Panel (which is described in
Chapter 4), the terms MODBUS and JBUS are intentionally used interchangeably to refer to MODBUS/JBUS RTU.
NB 2: If field installed, the IGMNet protocol on the Operator Panel default menu will no longer be available once the
optional MODBUS EPROM is installed.
Two-way communication with the surrounding environment using the MODBUS protocol takes place over a serial line
through the RS485 interface at the UPS System.
The information required to set up and use the MODBUS option included on the Operator Logic board of UPSs (or
MSS) in the HIPULSE E is provided below.
The UPS System is not programmed to use the MODBUS protocol and must be configured from the UPS Operator
Panel menu; until this is done all functions involving communication with the BMS, such as alarm records and
connection with the MODBUS, will be disabled.
WARNING
The MODBUS option may be installed provided that:
the UPSs are equipped with software release 16.1 or a more recent release (up to 19.1)of the following boards:
"UPS Logic Board"
- code 4550007H
" Operator Logic Board"
- code 4550005F
MSSs are equipped with software release 7.0 or a more recent release of the following boards:
"MSS Logic Board"
- code 4550009J
" Operator Logic Board"
- code 4550008I
(refer to the Information Window in Section 4.1.1 to verify this)
