MAINTENANCE
Visually check the spark plug. Replace the plug if the
insulator (1) is cracked or chipped.
Check the sealing washer (2) for damage.
Replace the spark plug if the sealing washer is
damaged.
SPARK PLUG: BPR5ES (NGK)
Measure the plug gap with a wire-type feeler gauge. If
the measurement is out of the specification, adjust by
bending the side electrode.
PLUG GAP:
Install the spark plug finger-tight to seat the washer,
and then tighten it to the specified torque.
TORQUE: 18 N·m (1.8 kgf·m, 13 lbf·ft)
A loose spark plug can become very hot and can
damage the engine. Overtightening can damage the
threads in the cylinder block.
Install the spark plug cap securely.
SPARK ARRESTER CLEANING
(UH TYPE ONLY)
CLEANING
Be careful to avoid damaging the screen.
Remove the spark arrester (page 11-2).
Clean the carbon deposits from the spark arrester
screen (1) with a wire brush (2).
Check the spark arrester screen for damage. If the
screen is damaged, replace the spark arrester.
Install the spark arrester in the reverse order of
removal.
