  • Page 8 Remove the Old CEM Mark the edge connector of each dimmer output ribbon cable (1, 2, 3, and 4) as illustrated below in the hexagons. There may be stickers on the ribbon cables already; however, these may refer to cable length and not dimmer outputs. They should not be used as a reference for these instructions.
  • Page 9 Note: If the power edge connector is damaged, the power harness will have to be replaced. Contact ETC to obtain a replacement CEM3 harness. Unscrew the backplane metal from the enclosure. (There are two screws total—one screw in the upper corner of each side.) Discard these screws. Replacement screws with thread locker are provided (ETC part# HW377) for later use.
  • Page 10 One is for stranded wire as found in Belden 9729 and contains screw terminals (ETC part# J3407-F included with the kits). The other style is an IDC connector (ETC part# J3409-F must be ordered separately) for solid-core wire such as Category 5 cabling.
  • Page 11 Using the permanent marker, mark “A” on both ends of the DMX connector. Disconnect the DMXB wires terminal 3, 9, and 10 of the J2 connector. Connect the DMXB wires to another 8-pin connector using a precision 3/32” (2.5 mm) flat-blade screwdriver.
  • Page 12 Attach new power harness Clip the first zip tie, attaching the power harness to the enclosure, behind the existing J1 power connector to give the harness more room to move while you work. Install the power adapter harness to the edge connector (straight thru PCB) and then to the old power connector (be sure the wire colors match on both sides of the joined connectors).
  • Page 13 Connect Dimmer Output Adaptors to Dimmer Output Cables For each of the ribbon cables (1, 2, or 4 depending on your enclosure type), connect the transition card edge connector to the ribbon cable. • Pin 1 of the enclosure ribbon cable is marked by an arrow on the connector, which corresponds to an arrow on the transition card at J2/pin 1.
  • Page 14 Terminate Ethernet Cable (if installed) Terminate the Ethernet cable with the provided Cat 5 Termination Kit (ETC part# 4101A2003). Follow the wire preparation and termination instructions included with the kit. Using a network cable tester, verify the connection and cable performance between the newly installed cable termination and the patch bay, or the location where the cable terminates.
  • Page 15 Install the New Backplane Ensure the DMX termination switches are set properly. Termination should be turned on for the last physical enclosure in the DMX daisy-chain (no DMX wiring leaves the enclosure from that port). Install the dimmer output ribbon cables/transition cards.   • Page 16 Insert the backplane tabs in the sides of the enclosure. With the tabs fully inserted in the sides of the Screw with enclosure, pull the backplane towards the sleeve front of the enclosure to line up the screw holes in the upper side corners. Install one screw with a sleeve in the upper corner of each side of the backplane.

    Install the new beacon PCB (ETC part # 7141B5109) with two screws (ETC part # HW222.) (Three new screws of the same type are provided in case the old ones were damaged during the removal process.)
  • Page 18: Final Steps

    For future service needs, it is recommended that you send copies of the final CEM3 configuration files for each enclosure to ETC technical services (Lightmanager@etcconnect.com). Include your job number and the date the configuration was adjusted. Note: Send CEM3 configuration files saved out of the Sensor3 enclosure, not configuration exported from ETC Net 3 Concert (if used).
