The Adaptec PowerDomain 29160/29160N features Adaptec
SpeedFlex technology. SpeedFlex technology ensures that you get
the most performance from your LVD SCSI devices by electroni-
cally isolating the LVD portion (segment) of the SCSI bus from
the Ultra SCSI segment of the SCSI bus. When you attach only
LVD SCSI devices to the LVD connector(s), all LVD devices
should operate at their maximum potential data transfer rates,
that is, 80 MB/sec for Ultra2-LVD devices and 160 MB/sec for
Ultra160-LVD devices. The device driver being used with the
device is also somewhat responsible for the final negotiated
speed. Ultra SCSI (and slower) devices attached to either of the
Fast/Ultra-SE connectors operate at speeds up to 20 MB/sec.
With the SpeedFlex advantage, the Adaptec PowerDomain
29160/29160N supports both LVD and non-LVD SCSI devices—
all on one SCSI bus.
