Removing and Installing Components
Versatile Environmental Monitor (VEM) Removal and Instal-
lation
The VEM is located in the rear of the Storage Array.
Removing an VEM
1.
Switch off power to the Storage Array shelf, ensuring no activity on the fibre
loops.
2.
Loosen the two panel fasteners on the VEM.
3.
Using the handle slowly pull the VEM out of the shelf.
CAUTION: After removing the VEM the resulting hole must be blocked by
installing a blanking plate or by installing a replacement VEM. Failure to do
this can disrupt airflow and seriously reduce cooling.
Installing a VEM
1.
Ensure that power to the Storage Array shelf is turned off.
2.
Insert the VEM into the VEM slot on the rear of the shelf.
3.
Press the VEM firmly into place, ensuring a good connection between the
VEM and the backplane.
4.
Align the two panel fasteners on the VEM with the holes on the rear of the
shelf.
5.
Tighten the panel fasteners.
