Chapter 4: Environmental Monitoring
This Chapter deals with the methods used to monitor the RAIDstation7 Fibre
Channel Storage Array. The methods used are:
• Versatile Environmental Monitor (VEM) - The VEM is a card that plugs into
the backplane of the RAIDstation7 Fibre Channel Storage Array. The VEM
monitors the disk drives, ACM's, power supplies, and enclosure tempera-
ture. The VEM uses the SCSI Enclosure Services (SES) interface to monitor
and communicate shelf and device status.
• Device Carrier LEDs - All device carriers have two LEDs on the front which
give details about the operational status of the disk drives and power sup-
plies.
