Setting the Storage Array IDs

Fibre Channel uses a 7 bit binary code for addressing. The 3 Least Significant
Bits set the disk drive IDs from ID 0 to ID 6. These 3 bits are set automatically by
the backplane.
The 4 Most Significant Bits set the fibre disk shelf IDs using hexadecimal num-
bering. There are 16 possible IDs numbered from 0 to F. The fibre disk shelf IDs
are set using the thumbwheel switch on the rear of the disk shelf (see Figure 3-5).

The thumbwheel switch sets the value of the Storage Array ID using hexadecimal
numbering. There are 16 possible IDs numbered from 0 to F. For example, to
install a storage array with an ID of 14, the value on the thumbwheel switch
should be set to E.
