Commands

The remaining sections in this chapter detail the
management functions that can be carried out from
the CLI.

Enabling and Disabling BOOTP

If BOOTP is enabled and you have a BOOTP server on
your network, the server can automatically allocate an
IP address, subnet mask and default router address to
the switch. BOOTP is enabled by default but it only
requests this information if the IP address field is
'0.0.0.0'.
For information on how to use you BOOTP server,
refer to the documentation that accompanies it.
To enable or disable BOOTP:
At the top-level menu, enter:
1
ip interface bootp
You are prompted for the switch's new BOOTP state:
2
Enter new value (enabled, disabled) [enabled]:
Enable or disable BOOTP as required.

Setting the IP Configuration

Before you can manage the switch over the network,
it must have an IP address and subnet mask. If you
have a BOOTP server, it can configure this information
for the switch. You may also need to enter a default
router (sometimes known as a default gateway)
address. The default router is the router (if you have
one) which is used by the switch to communicate
with other networks.
If you have no previous knowledge of IP, refer to
Appendix
B. If you change any of these values, you
must reset the switch (refer to
on page 5-9) and then re-access the switch using the
new values.
To enter new IP settings:
At the top-level menu, enter:
1
ip interface define
You are prompted for the switch's IP address:
2
Enter IP address [0.0.0.0]:
Enter a valid IP address for the switch.
You are prompted for the switch's subnet mask:
3
Enter subnet mask [0.0.0.0]:
Enter a subnet mask.
