Managing Over the Network

This section describes how to set up equipment to
enable you to communicate with the switch over the
network (in-band management).
You can manage the switch over the network,
through any of the switch ports.
Before you can manage the switch over the network
for the first time, you must connect locally to the
console port and use either the web interface or the
CLI to enter IP information for the switch:
Connect your management station to the switch, and
1
establish management communication, refer to
"Managing Through the Console Port"
Configure an IP address and subnet mask for the
2
switch.
If you have a BOOTP server, it can automatically
assign your network equipment, including the
OfficeConnect Switch 140M, with IP information so
that it can be communicated with and managed over
the network. You may need to provide the BOOTP
server with the switch's MAC address (this can be
found on a label on the back of the switch). Refer to
the documentation that accompanies your BOOTP
server for information on how to use it.
on page 3-5.
