ANAGING
Every time the switch sees a source address that it
does not have in its switch database (an unknown
address), it learns what port the device is on. When
the switch database is full, no new addresses are
learnt. The switch regularly removes unused learnt
addresses from the switch database if they have not
been used over a specific length of time (known as
the ageing time). Using the web interface, you can
make address entries permanent so that they are not
removed by the ageing process.
It is a good idea to have permanent address entries
for certain pieces of network equipment that are
primarily receivers of traffic, for example printers and
fax servers.
The fields on the Switch Database box are:
Port Selection Filter All Ports / Port 1 / Port 2 /
Port 3 / Port 4 / Port 5
Specify the port that the device with the MAC
address is on. Choose a specific port if you want to
perform an action on an address for that port, or
choose All Ports.
Enter MAC Address Specify the MAC address of
the device. If you want to search for an address, you
can enter part of the address.
