Initializing the Switch

Initializing the switch causes it to return to its factory
default settings, and the switch is reset. You may
want to do this if the switch has been previously used
in a different part of your network, and its settings
are incorrect for its new environment.
CAUTION: Initializing the switch removes all
configuration information including passwords.
However, IP, SLIP and default router information is
retained to ensure you can continue management
communication with the switch over the network.
To initialize the switch:
At the top-level menu, enter:
1
system initialize
The CLI asks you to confirm the initialize. Enter y if
2
you wish to proceed, or n if you want to stop the
initialize.
During an initialize, you are unable to communicate
with the switch. After the initialize, type [Return]
[Return] to restore the communication (if required).
The initialize process takes about 10 seconds.

Testing the Connection to Other Devices

From the CLI you can send out a PING request to test
that a device on your network can receive and
transmit information to the switch. You can use PING
to ensure that the switch is installed correctly, and
that your network connections are good.
To PING a device:
At the top-level menu, enter:
1
ip ping
You are prompted for the device's IP address:
2
Enter destination IP address:
Enter the IP address of the device.
3
The CLI transmits a single PING request to the device.
It then displays a message telling you if it received a
response, for example:
Starting ping, resolution of displayed time is
10 milli-sec
Response from 191.1.1.30: 1 router hop. time =
10ms
