Why does the SD-H400 have to be
connected to a phone line?
My phone jack isn't near the SD-H400.

Troubleshooting

The SD-H400 needs to be connected to the phone line to make an automatic daily call
to the TiVo service. This call downloads program information, which tells the SD-
H400 when programs are scheduled to air and on what channel. The call also
downloads additional information from the TiVo service, such as service updates.
The SD-H400 comes with a 25 foot phone cord. Phone cords longer than 25 feet are
readily available at most hardware or electronics stores.
Many of our customers report success when using wireless modem jacks. However,
we cannot guarantee that using one will solve all phone call problems. Make sure you
are using a wireless modem jack, not merely a wireless phone jack.
The wireless modem jack plugs into your phone line and a standard AC outlet. The
wireless modem jacks are specifically designed for sending and receiving data
transmissions. If you use the wireless modem jack, be sure it is connected to an
electrical socket that has continuous power (not a socket controlled by a manual
switch). We cannot guarantee that a wireless modem jack will work with all phone and
electrical systems.
Wireless modem jacks are available at your local electronics store. We suggest the
following models of wireless modem jacks:
RCA RC930
Phonex PX 441
GE 965967
Radio Shack 43001600
