For basic connections and settings, see page 18, Connecting to TV and Optional

Connect the Serial Control cable (DIRECTV only). If your DIRECTV satellite

receiver has a 9-pin Data connector as shown at the right, plug one end of the Serial
Control cable into the Data connector. Plug the other end into the Channel Change-
Serial connector on the SD-H400.
If you don't have a Data connector, see page 13 for Serial control alternatives. If
you still can't use a Serial connection or if you don't have DIRECTV service, go to
next step.
Connect the IR Control cable. (a) Plug the purple end of the IR Control cable into

the Channel Change-IR connector (the lower mini-jack) on the SD-H400. (b)
Locate the IR sensor (see page 14 for help). (c) Mount the IR emitters. Place one
emitter on top of the cable box and the other underneath it. Be sure both emitters
stick out about 1.5 inches directly in front of the IR sensor. (Use the provided
adhesive strips to hold the emitters in place.)
Tune the TV: If you have a cable or satellite box, check which channel your TV is

currently tuned to (either 3 or 4) and set the 3/4 switch on the back of the SD-H400
a
to the same channel. You should see the Welcome screen. If you don't, see page 50
for more help.
Once you see the Welcome screen, the final steps are to activate the TiVo service

and complete Guided Setup (see the TiVo Viewer's Guide for details).
■ Connect to both a Cable and a Satellite Box
To connect to both a Cable and a Satellite Box, just follow the setup in the box.
