– Draw off as much brake fluid as possible from brake fluid res‐
ervoir using brake filling and bleeding equipment - VAS 5234- .
Vehicles with manual gearbox:
– Detach supply hose -B- for clutch master cylinder, lift clear and
tie in place, or clamp off supply hose -B- for clutch master cyl‐
inder with a commercially available tool, e.g. Hazet 4590, and
then pull off.
Continuation for all models:
– Disconnect connector -A- from brake fluid level warning con‐
tact - F34- .
– Separate connector -C- from brake light switch - F- .
– On vehicles with HBS, pull connector off brake servo vacuum
sender - G483- .
– Pull vacuum hose out of brake servo.
– Open cable duct and remove Servotronic wiring harness.
Then remove cable duct from console and place it to side.
Vehicles with manual gearbox:
– Release cables -1-, unbolt support bracket -2- and place it to
side ⇒ Rep. gr. 34 ; Selector mechanism; Assembly overview
- selector mechanism .
Vehicles with diesel engine:
– Loosen upper and lower air ducts ⇒ Rep. gr. 21 ; Charge air
system; Assembly overview - charge air system .
– Remove air hose between air duct and turbocharger ⇒ Rep.
gr. 21 ; Charge air system; Assembly overview - charge air
system .
– Loosen coolant pipe for exhaust gas recirculation.
– Unbolt connector strip with connectors -1 to 4- from plenum
chamber bulkhead, pull it off, and lay it to one side.
Continuation for all models:
– Unscrew brake lines on brake master cylinder and seal brake
lines with plugs from repair kit Part No. 1H0 698 311 A.
– Disconnect brake lines on hydraulic unit.
Additionally for vehicles with 6-cylinder petrol engine:
– Remove nuts for brake master cylinder.
– Carefully remove brake master cylinder from brake servo and
also remove heat shield.
– On vehicles with HBS, remove brake servo vacuum sender -
G483- ⇒ page 33 .
Continuation for all models:
– Remove driver side footwell cover ⇒ General body repairs,
interior; Rep. gr. 68 ; Compartments/covers; Removing and
installing dash panel end trim on driver side .
