Thank you for purchasing your new Clarke Metal Cutting Bandsaw. Before attempting to operate this bandsaw please read this instruction manual thoroughly and follow all directions carefully. This is for your own safety and that of others around you, and to ensure the machine will provide long and trouble free service.
General Safety Precautions For Operating Machinery WARNING! As with all machinery, there are certain hazards involved with their operation and use. Exercising respect and caution will considerably lessen the risk of personal injury. However, if normal safety precautions are overlooked or ignored, personal injury to the operator or damage to machinery may result.
✗ NEVER stand on the machine. Serious injury could occur if the machine is tipped over. Do not store materials above or near the machine such that it is necessary to stand on the machine to get to them. ✗ NEVER operate a machine when under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.
Electrical Connections Connect the mains lead to a standard 230V (50Hz) electrical supply through an approved 13Amp BS1363 plug, or a suitably fused isolator switch. WARNING! This Appliance must be Earthed! IMPORTANT: The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Green &...
Unpack you bandsaw with assistance, giving due consideration to its weight. Check to ensure it is undamaged. If damage has occurred during transit, you should notify your Clarke dealer immediately. Ensure the machine is located on a firm level surface, with adequate light and power source.
Preparation for Use Warning! Do not attempt to start the machine until ALL the following checks and adjustments are carried out. Ensure the plug is disconnected from mains. NOTE: Your Bandsaw is fully assembled at the factory, and except for a few checks and adjustments, detailed below, is ready for use.
The Moveable Guide Carrier must always be set as close to the work as possible, without the possibility of it fouling the work during the cutting process, as the Frame lowers. The Guide Carrier is secured by the single Hex. socket head screw (‘B’, Fig.
Fig.9 F. The Coolant Tank Fill the coolant tank with Clarke Cutting Oil, (see page 23), or Coolant (soluble oil), mixed according to the manufacturers recommendations, or Do not allow to run dry. Ensure the coolant is clean and always of the correct consistency.
To change speed, pull out the locating pin Fig. 10 handle, shown arrowed in Fig. 10, and move the lever so that it locks into place in either the ‘A’ or ‘B’ position. NOTE: If the gears do not mesh immediately, it may be necessary to move the saw blade slightly whilst applying pressure to the gear change lever.
When the Frame reaches the bottom of its travel, a bracket, attached to the Frame, presses (‘A’ Fig.13), down on the OFF switch, switching Off the (‘B’ Fig.13), machine. ALWAYS ensure the bracket is positioned so that this will operate correctly.
MAINTENANCE WARNING! This machine MUST be disconnected from the mains supply whenever carrying out adjustments or maintenance of any kind. A. Changing the Blade Fig. 16 When the blade becomes worn or defective in any way it should be replaced immediately. The following process details how to change the blade.
B. Adjusting the Blade Guides Blade Guide adjustment is critical in ensuring the blade runs true. This adjustment is carried out at the factory, and the need for readjustment should rarely occur. If results are unsatisfactory, it is strongly recommended that you try a new blade before readjusting the guide bearings.
If the blade tends to run off the rim of the pulley wheel, turn the Hex. socket head screw, shown at ‘B’ fig.19, using a 4.5mm wrench, CLOCKWISE, by one quarter turn only, then retighten the two screws shown at ‘A’. Turn the blade by hand, ensuring you are wearing a suitable pair of industrial gloves, checking to ensure the blade runs neatly, just off the lip on the back edge of the pulley wheel.
Troubleshooting Problem Possible Cause Remedy Excessive Blade Breakage 1. Incorrect blade tension 1. Adjust to where blade just does not 2. Incorrect speed or feed slip on wheel 3. Material loose in vice 2. Check Machinist Handbook 4. Blade rubs on wheel flange 3.
