The MFI uses an alerting algorithm to issue ADS-B traffic alerts (TA). The own aircraft
altitude above terrain determines the sensitivity of the alerting algorithm to minimize nuisance
alerts. Height Above Terrain, and Geodetic Sea Level (GSL) altitude are used to adjust the
sensitivity of the algorithm.
A 'TRAFFIC' annunciation will appear on the 'Traffic' Page, or as a pop-up alert when a TA
is issued.
If the bearing of TA traffic cannot be determined, a yellow text banner will be displayed in
the center of the 'Traffic' Page instead of a TA symbol. The text will indicate 'TA' followed by
the distance, relative altitude, and vertical trend arrow for the TA traffic, if known.
A TA will be displayed for at least eight seconds, even if the condition(s) that initially
triggered the TA are no longer a factor.

ADS-B traffic can help the pilot visually acquire traffic both in the air and on-the-ground.
There are three ADS-B applications supported by the MFI: Airborne Situational Awareness
(AIRB) and Surface Situational Awareness (SURF) and ADS-B Traffic Advisory System (ATAS).
AIRB is considered the fundamental airborne traffic application. ATAS provides alerts when
airborne traffic trajectories pose a potential collision risk. SURF provides additional situational
awareness when on ground or within the terminal environment. The system automatically
selects the appropriate application based on conditions.
Due to the varying precision of the data received through ADS-B, ADS-R, and TIS-B services,
not all traffic symbols may be depicted on the traffic display. Because higher data precision is
required for traffic to be displayed in the SURF environment, some traffic eligible for AIRB will
not be displayed while SURF is on.
Disabling the display of ADS-B applications:
1) From the 'Traffic' Page, open the page menu and select Traffic Options.
2) Select the ADS-B Display Button to toggle between the active application and 'Off'.

The traffic source and status is annunciated on the 'Traffic' Page. During normal operation,
the "ADS: On" status means that both AIRB and ATAS applications are active.
A test of the traffic system may be initiated, which will display a test pattern on the 'Traffic'
Page. Then, the system returns to normal operation once the test is complete.
