SECTION 5 HAZARD AVOIDANCE

5.1 INTRODUCTION

Hazard avoidance features are designed to aid situational awareness and provide advisory
information regarding potential hazards to flight safety associated with weather, terrain, and
air traffic.
• Weather
– SiriusXM Weather
– Flight Information Services-Broadcast (FIS-B)
– Stormscope
• Terrain Avoidance
– Terrain Proximity
– Terrain-FLTA
– TAWS-B (external TAWS system required)
• Traffic
– Traffic Information Service (TIS)
– Traffic Advisory System (TAS) / Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS)
– Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Traffic

5.2 DATALINK WEATHER

WARNING: Do not use datalink weather information for maneuvering in, near, or
around areas of hazardous weather. Information contained within datalink weather
products may not accurately depict current weather conditions.
WARNING: Do not use the indicated datalink weather product age to determine the
age of the weather information shown by the datalink weather product. Due to time
delays inherent in gathering and processing weather data for datalink transmission,
the weather information shown by the datalink weather product may be older than
the indicated weather product age.
Datalink weather services, including SiriusXM Weather and Flight Information Services-
Broadcast (FIS-B) may be transmitted from a ground station or satellite and received for display
on the MFI.
