5.3 Checking the Interface Configuration

Purpose
This topic describes how to check the configuration related to interfaces to ensure that the
equipment is working properly.
Steps
1. Check the Ethernet interface configuration.
2. Check the IP address configuration.
3. Check the interface clock configuration.
Reference Standards
1. Run the show interface command to check the working mode of an interface.
In normal situations, the rate and the duplex mode of an Ethernet interface should be
the same as those on an interface of the peer equipment. Otherwise, there might be
a hidden trouble.
If the rates and the duplex modes are not the same, modify the configuration at the
earliest possible.
2. Run the show ip interface command to check IP address configuration.
Generally, for an address on a point-to-point interface interconnected between network
equipment, it is recommended to use a 30-bit mask.
3. Run the show interface command to check information of the ports on which the clock
configuration is necessary.
l If two equipments are connected directly back to back, it is recommended to set
one end to the master clock and set the other end to the slave clock. It is possible
to set both of the interconnected ends to the master clocks.
l
If there is a wavelength division transport system between two equipments, it is
required to set both of the interconnected ends to the master clocks.
l
If there is a relay equipment between two equipment, it is required to set both of
the interconnected ends to the slave clocks.
