Repair and Maintenance

Failure Mode Definitions
1.
Safe Detected: The motor management relay software
detects and changes the relay state for the random hard-
ware failures not impacting safety function performance.
2.
Safe Undetected: The motor management relay software
may not detect the random hardware failures which do not
impact the safety function performance.
3.
Dangerous Detected: The motor management relay soft-
ware detects and changes the relay state for the random
hardware failure impacting safety function performance.
4.
Dangerous Undetected: The motor management relay soft-
ware may not detect the random hardware failures which
may impact safety function performance.
Repair and Maintenance
User shall refer to APPENDIX C - TROUBLESHOOTING AND
DIAGNOSTICS section of C445 user manual to understand vari-
ous fault codes and troubleshooting options.
WARNING
UNINTENDED EQUIPMENT OPERATION
The maintenance of this product requires expertise
in the design and programming of control systems .
Only persons with such expertise should be allowed
to program, install, maintain, and apply this product .
Follow all local and national safety codes and standards .
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death,
serious injury, or equipment damage .
The Power Xpert® C445 motor management relay shall
undergo a proof test during regular maintenance operation
at least every 1 year. The proof test procedure is explained
in the Installation and Operation manual.
If a device is observed to be failed during a maintenance
check, it shall be taken out of operation and returned to
Eaton.

CAUTION
Faulty devices shall not be opened or repaired. They must
be replaced by specialist personnel.
WARNING
Do not service with voltage applied - Lock-out Tags .

Warranty

To meet the conditions of the warranty, you must observe
all safety and commissioning instructions and the operating
instructions.
If the overload relay is found to be non-operational within
the warranty period or after the warranty period it should be
returned to Eaton Corporation.

Installation

The appropriate installation instructions must be observed for
the mechanical and electrical installation. The instruction leaflet
(IL) along with user manual is included in the packaging and is
also available on www.eaton.com/C445.
WARNING
HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC
FLASH
• Turn off all power supplying this equipment before
working on it .
• Apply appropriate personal protective equipment
(PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices .
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death
or serious injury .
CAUTION
For explosion protection, a MANUAL RESET is only
permissible after the motor has cooled down or by
automatic switching using a control interlock to the motor
or electrical machine. Resets may be carried out during the
installation or by trained personnel in the control room.
CAUTION
An automatic restart is not recommended for Ex e
applications after the control voltage has failed and then
been restored.
