Tray 1 is a tandem tray.

It can be converted to a standard paper tray with the optional A3/DLT kit.

The tandem feed tray cannot detect the paper size. By adjusting the side
and back fences and SP mode (5959-001), you can choose the size of
paper (Default: A4).
