Performance Characteristics
Nominal load-to-ready time
Nominal unload time
Average rewind time
Note: Note: All sustained data rates are dependent on the
capabilities of the interconnect.
By using the built-in data-compression capability of the tape drive,
greater data rates than the native data transfer rate can be achieved.
However, the actual throughput is a function of many components,
such as the host system processor, disk data rate, block size, data
compression ratio, SAS bus capabilities, and system or application
software.
The LTO-8 uses the Quantum LTO Ultrium 12000 GB Data Cartridge and
is compatible with the cartridges of its predecessors, the Quantum
Ultrium Tape Drive Generation 7. The drive performs the following
functions:
• Reads and writes Ultrium 8 cartridges to Ultrium 8 format, including
WORM and Data Encryption
• Reads and writes Ultrium 7 cartridges to Ultrium 7 format, including
WORM and Data Encryption
• Reads and writes Ultrium 7 cartridges in M8 format
• Does not read or write Ultrium 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 cartridges
The drive reads tapes that are written by other licensed Ultrium 7, and 8
drives, and writes to tapes that are read by other licensed Ultrium 7 and
8 drives.
