Risk of sparking

Sparking can occur when working with the
battery and the thick cables in the starter
motor circuit.
This can cause the battery to explode, fire or
eye injuries.
Sparking in the circuit can not occur once the
battery's power connection cable (usually the
black negative cable) has been
disconnected.
Avoid sparking and its consequences by:
Wearing protective glasses.
Make sure that the fuel cap is fitted and
that no flammable liquids are stored in
an open container.
Do not work on the starter motor circuit
in the vicinity of spilt fuel.
Disconnect the battery's power
connection cable (usually the black
negative cable) first and connect it last.
Exercise care with tools so that short
circuiting does not occur.
Do not short circuit across the starter
relay's connections to run the starter
