2.3.6. TCP/IP Protocols
IPv4: conforms to Internet Protocol version 4
TCP: conforms to the Transmission Control Protocol for data packets over the network
HTTP: the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol is a communication protocol that enables web page
browsing over the network and the internet
ICMP / Ping Server: Response to another device's ping requests (unless disabled by the
web page as described in section 5.5.4)
2.3.7. Remote Programming Protocols
VXI-11: This is a protocol that allows ASCII-based text communications to take place
between a controller and a device over a computer network. Supported messages are the
VXI-11 Device_write, Device_read and others
RPC: The Remote Procedure Call is a message protocol used to ensure the VXI-11
messages are processed correctly by the LAN interface
Sockets: Raw socket commands are available through port 8001. See section 6.5
VISA: The Genesys™ LAN interface is compatible with programs using VISA drivers. This
includes the viRead and viWrite functions for sending and reading SCPI messages
SCPI: The Standard Commands for Programmable Instrumentation is a command structure
for text-based commands. The Genesys™ LAN interface is SCPI 1999 compliant
2.3.8. SCPI Programming Functions
General: Almost any setting which may be done from the front panel may also be done over
the LAN using the web pages or a SCPI command. All settings made from the front panel
may similarly be read back.
Status and Errors: Command acceptance and power supply conditions may be checked
using the SCPI "SYSTEM:ERROR?" query or by using the IEEE-488.2 Status and Error
registers. See section 7.8
IEEE-488 Compatibility: The LAN SCPI commands are compatible with the IEEE-488
option for the Genesys™ power supply, except serial poll and service requests are not
supported in the LAN
2.3.9. Web Pages
Remote Control: Most settings which may be done from the front panel may also be done
remotely using the "DC Power" web page. Most settings made from the front panel may
similarly be read back
HTTP: The web pages use the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. Any W3C compliant browser
program can view web pages sent using HTTP
Java: The browser program must have the Java runtime engine installed, see section 1.4.2
above
SCPI: A "Utility" web page allows you to send any SCPI command to explore how SCPI
works and to operate features not available in the other web pages. See section 7 for a
description of the SCPI commands
