Security chip
If you replace the imagePASS motherboard, you must transfer the security chip from the old
motherboard to the new motherboard.
Make sure you remove the security chip from the old motherboard before returning it to your
authorized service/support center. If you do not transfer the security chip to the replacement
motherboard, the imagePASS will not start up, and all customer-purchased software options
will be lost.
Make sure you install the security chip correctly. If you do not, the security chip or the
motherboard may become corrupted.
T
O TRANSFER THE SECURITY CHIP TO THE NEW MOTHERBOARD
When you handle electronic components, follow electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions
(see
page
10).
1 Locate the extraction tool provided in the new motherboard kit.
2 Remove the security chip from the J12 socket on the old motherboard.
Carefully position the extraction tool around the edges of the security chip, and pull the chip
straight out of the socket. Make sure not to put stress on surrounding components.
Do not rock the chip from side to side when removing it from the socket. Doing so may result
in permanent damage to the security chip.
3 Inspect the security chip and carefully straighten any bent pins with needlenose pliers.
4 Install the security chip in socket J12 on the new motherboard.
Align the small notch on the security chip with the notch in the outline that appears inside
the J12 socket.
Make sure you install the security chip correctly. If you do not, the security chip or the
motherboard may become corrupted.
