Adjusting the Off-center Load

Master
Balances with the Small Single-Casting Block System
pro
Adjusting the off-center load requires specialized knowledge of small single-
casting block systems (especially for adjusting balances with a readability of 1
mg!) which cannot be described in detail in this service manual. However,
you can acquire the required knowledge by attending the corresponding ser-
vice training course on this topic. For more information, please contact Sarto-
rius AG in Goettingen, Germany, or the Sartorius Training Center.

3-Point Adjustment (rough)

– The off-center load is adjusted by turning the 2 adjustment screws as de-
scribed in the following.
– The adjustment screws are accessed through 2 openings in the upper part
of the balance housing.
– To access these openings, remove the weighing pan and then remove the
2 stoppers from the upper part of the housing (arrows).
– Place the test weight in position A on the weighing pan and press t to
tare the balance.
– Place the test weight on positions B and C in sequence and write down
the values, with plus or minus sign, displayed at stability.
– Example:
Pos. A
Pos. B
Pos. C
– Only adjust the side with the greater error (absolute value) as follows:
Negative error value:
Turn the screw counter-clockwise
Positive error value:
Turn the screw clockwise
– Change the screw position in small increments and re-measure the off-cen-
ter load in positions A through C after each adjustment.
– Repeat this procedure until the off-center load error is within the tolerances
at all 3 positions.
– Then re-measure the off-center load in 5 positions (see page 33).
– If the off-center load error exceeds the tolerances when you perform this
test, perform the 5-point fine adjustment.
