ActiveScale™ X100 Installation Guide

8.1 Hardware steps

Complete these hardware steps before proceeding to the software steps for scale out. On multi-site
systems, complete all hardware steps at each site before proceeding on to the software steps.
The steps below explain how to:
• Connect cables between the existing system and the new system.
Note: If both systems are new installations, complete the Customer Bringup
Wizard on the first system, then connect the system interconnect links, and
finally power up the servers on the second system.
• If necessary, reconfigure the ports on the new and existing systems.
Note: If the defaults were changed, reconfigure the ports on your systems for the
links to come up.
• For multi-site systems, connect the uplinks to the networks.

If you are performing a multi-site scale out, additional parts are required.
Contains four 40Gb male transceivers that plug into the scale out ports on the
System Interconnects:
• If you are adding a second system, you need two kits for a total of eight
transceivers: four plug into the System Interconnect scale out ports on the
first system, and four plug into the System Interconnect scale out ports on the
second system.
• If you are adding a third system or more, you only need one kit for a total of
four transceivers; they plug into the System Interconnect scale out ports on
the new system.
Important: These cables are customer supplied.
• OM3 cables must be 100m or shorter. That means your new system must be
within 100m of your existing system.
• OM4 cables must be 150m or shorter. That means your new system must be
within 150m of your existing system.
Warning: If rack-to-rack connectivity uses customer infrastructure, Type-A,
