Chapter 9. Diskless/Dataless Workstation Configuration
This chapter explains how to set up the system unit for diskless/dataless operation.

Diskless/Dataless Workstation Configuration

There are two ways to configure the 7012 system units:
Standard system – the operating system is on the disk drive within the 7012.
Diskless/dataless system – the operating system is on a remote server. When the
operating system is on a remote server, the workstation is referred to as a
diskless/dataless workstation.
In this manual, the configuration that uses a remote server to load the operating system is
referred to as diskless/dataless.
Note: The diskless/dataless system cannot boot without using a network server. The
diskless/dataless system is called the client of the server.
