FRONT BRAKE
The front brakes should be adjusted so that when you
fully squeeze the front brake lever:
The brake lever clearance measured
holder is 12–14 mm (0.5–0.6 in), and the brake cable
B is in the straight up position as shown in the
holder
photograph.
Front brake lever play: 12–14 mm (0.5–0.6 in)
Check the front brakes for proper operation every
time before riding. If necessary, adjust the front
brakes as follows:
1. Place the vehicle on a level surface. Lift the front
end of the vehicle and place a solid object, such as
a wooden block, securely under the frame.
2. Turn the upper and lower cable adjusters
equally until the brake lever clearance
ured at the lever holder is 12–14 mm (0.5–0.6 in)
when the lever is squeezed. Make sure that at
least 5 mm (0.2 in) of the adjuster threads are
inserted in the lever holder
photograph. Tighten the lock nuts

turn the left and right brake hub adjusters
equally to obtain the specified clearance.
3. Turn the upper or lower cable adjuster so that
when the brake lever is fully squeezed the cable
holder is in the straight up position. This adjust-
ment is important for smooth braking, and to help
prevent uneven wear of the brake shoes on the left
and right wheels. Check the brake lever clearance
again, and repeat step (2) if necessary.
4. Release the front brake lever and turn the front
wheels by hand to make sure the brakes don't
drag. If either brake drags, the brake lever clear-
ance should be increased slightly. Repeat steps
(2) and (3).
REAR BRAKE
Adjust the rear brake pedal so that there is approxi-
mately 15–25 mm (0.6–1.0 in) of travel as shown in
the photograph. To adjust the amount of travel, turn
A. Turning the adjusting nut clock-
the adjusting nut
