Leads Routing

Because of the different maximum cable lengths in single-ended and differ-
ential-ended SCSI mode, two types of cable routing are possible in the standard
rack: limited and unlimited cable routing.
I
The articulated cable carrier is provided with an additional joint which
facilitates folding the articulated carrier. To unlock the additional joint,
push the spring (5) upwards. When closing the articulated cable carrier,
this spring automatically engages.
Limited Cable Routing
When operating in the single-ended SCSI mode, the maximum cable length for
external SCSI cables of 1.50 m or 1.80 m limits the way you can lay cable in the
rack. This means that the SCSI cables can no longer be attached to the articu-
lated cable carrier in their entirety.
Ê Plug the SCSI cables into the server and storage extension unit.
Ê Secure the SCSI cables using cable ties.
Ê Fasten the bound SCSI cables onto the articulated cable carrier of the server
and of the storage extension unit using cable ties. You should fasten the
cables to the articulated cable carrier near the bend in the guide.
Ê Check to see if the units can be pulled out without breaking or even over-
stretching the SCSI cables.
Ê Route the SCSI cables through the cable channel after having reinserted the
server and the storage extension unit (see the technical manual for the rack).
V
CAUTION!
Before you pull out any units cabled in this way you must remove the
SCSI cables from the cable guides.
All other cables, such as the AEMI or CAN bus cables can be laid as described
in the section "Limited Cable Routing" below.
If you pull out at a later time a unit for which the cable has been laid as described
above, follow these steps:
Ê Take the SCSI cables out of the cable guide.
Ê Move the unit carefully so that no cables are damaged or become pinched.
Ê Replace the SCSI cables back into the cable guides.
