4.2.7.2 Notes on the Safety Modes

CAUTION
Safety mode cannot be activated
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Altered damping behaviour of the orthosis because of failure to activate safety mode (e.g. in case of short cir
cuit due to water penetration).
→ Visit the CPO promptly.
→ If possible, actively secure the orthosis with the residual musculature upon heel strike until reaching the CPO.
CAUTION
Danger when activating safety mode.
In certain situations, this can lead to falling caused by:
► Altered damping behaviour of the orthosis (stance phase damping is active and swing phase is not triggered).
→ As soon as the audible signal is emitted, stop all activities involving the orthosis immediately.
→ After approximately 10 seconds and from a secure standing position, check to see if stance phase resistance
is active by slightly bending the knee joint repeatedly under controlled weight bearing.
CAUTION
Safety mode cannot be deactivated
If the orthosis is in safety mode, it is probably defective.
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Altered damping behaviour of the orthosis.
→ If safety mode cannot be deactivated by recharging the battery, an error has occurred.
→ Contact the CPO to have the error corrected.
→ Do not use a defective orthosis.
CAUTION
Safety signal occurs (ongoing beep signal)
The safety signal indicates an orthosis error.
This may lead to falling caused by:
► Altered damping behaviour of the orthosis.
→ Discontinue using the orthosis if the safety signal is emitted.
→ The orthosis must then be sent to an authorised Ottobock Service Centre for inspection. Your CPO is the
contact person.
