Creating links

A node can either represent an object of a security system, or be a reference (such
as a pointer) to another node already inserted (a
The latter case solves all those situations in which you need to insert a copy of a
node which has been already inserted somewhere else in the tree structure, but
you want to avoid all the negative side effects of data duplication.

With a
node, Composer allows you to insert a reference to a designated
node so that the data are stored only in one place. Composer also takes care of
the consistency of the tree structure by notifying the link node every time the linked
node is modified.
The concept is quite similar to the shortcut files used in Windows. A shortcut file is
a file that is used as reference to another existing file.
The following figure gives an example of a link and a linked node:

The relationship between the linked node and the link node is a
relationship, which means that it is possible to have many nodes that link the same
(linked) node. The linked node, however, does not have the list of the nodes that
are pointing it, but only a reference count that is greater than zero when the node is
linked by one or more linking nodes. The nodes involved in the link relationship can
even belong to subsystems handled by different Plug-ins.
Creating links:
The creation of a link node is based on the

, the following takes place:
A new node is created to represent a link to the dragged node (default action)
Note: In this case a new node (namely, the linked node) is created. The linked
node has its own description (and technical text), plus all the other properties
inherited from the link node. The
consequence, show all those properties.
If a node can be moved or copied, hold the appropriate key to manipulate the
node:
SHIFT : The node (and its child nodes) is moved to the new position in the tree.
ALT : The node (and its child nodes) is moved to the new position at the same
level in the tree.
CTRL+C : The node (and its child nodes) is copied.
