Managing Composer License

To run Composer with full functionality, you must have a license, which is
composed of:
A hardware key to be attached to your PC.

A license code named PAK (Product Authorisation Key) to activate the

hardware key.
You activate the PAK using the PAK Manager software that was installed with the
Composer software.
If you haven't a valid license you can run Composer as a guest user [➙ 33] with
reduced functionality.
The Composer GW Tool installation option [➙ 33], limited to NK8237
commissioning tasks, does not need neither a hardware key nor a PAK to run.
Customer and Service Keys
Composer licenses come in two types:
Customer Key. The Customer Key is associated to a specific customer site. It

has no limitations.
Service Key. The Service Key works as passkey for providing maintenance

service on any site. It can run for 24 hours per session for MM8000 / MK8000
and has an expiration date. Starting from one month before the actual
expiration, a specific message warns Composer users about the need of
renewing the license.
Service keys : Service keys also require a PAK and have expiration dates. Note
that you will receive a message 30 days before your service key is due to expire.
If your service key has expired, you will be notified of this as well.
A service key is subject to the following limitations:
- Unlimited time for Composer
- Limit 24 hours per session for MM8000/MK8000

Service Key and Solutions/Products channels
Starting from MP4.20, Composer Service Keys are issued for a specific sales
channel: either Solutions or Products channel. Solutions and Products projects are
distinguished by a specific license type and Service Keys are identified for either of
the two channels.
Note that Service Keys issued for the Solution channel work for any project,
whereas Product service keys do not work for Solution projects.
Solutions keys also enable users to change the channel type of a Composer
project: from Solution to Product or vice versa. See the drop-down field in the
Summary node of the top project node.

Activating the license

To activate the Composer license you need to attach the hardware key [➙ 30] to
the PC and to activate the hardware key by using the PAK code.
