Appendix A: Connector Descriptions and Jumper Settings

Function
Pmod Ports
These connectors provide access to the I/O pins on the PIC32MX795 microcontroller. Digilent Pmods can be

attached to these ports. These ports can be used for general access to I/O pins on the PIC32MX795
microcontroller.
Pmod Port Power Select
Any of the Pmod ports can provide either regulated or unregulated power. To use regulated power, place the
JPA –
jumper block over the center pin and the pin marked 3V3. To use unregulated power, place the jumper block
JPF
over the center pin and the pin marked 5V0.
USB Serial converter auxiliary signals
This connector can be used to access the auxiliary RS232 handshaking signals not used on the chipKIT MX4

board.
USB Serial converter (UART) connector
J2
This USB micro-AB connector is used to connect the FT232R serial converter to a USB port on the user PC.
Power supply source select
This jumper is used to select the source of main board power.
Place the shorting block in the "USB" position to have the board powered from the USB device connector,
J19.
Place the shorting block in the "EXT" position to have the board powered from one of the external power
J3
connectors, J17 or J18.
Place the shorting block in the "DBG" position to have the board powered from the debug USB connector,
J15.
Place the shorting block in the "UART" position to have the board powered from the USB serial converter
connector, J2
I2C1 daisy chain connector
J7
This connector provides access to the I2C signals, power, and ground for I2C1.
I2C2 daisy chain connector
J8
This connector provides access to the I2C signals, power, and ground for I2C2.
CAN #1 Connector
J9
This connector is used to access the signals for CAN #1.
CAN #2 Connector
J10
This connector is used to access the signals for CAN #2.
Ethernet Connector
J11
This connector provides access to the 10/100 Ethernet port.
Do Not Use.

Debug USB Connector
