Troubleshooting
No memory card
- Insert a compatible recording media into the camcorder (A 35).
- The recording media may not be inserted correctly. Insert the recording media all the way into the recording media slot
until it clicks.

Number of clips already at maximum
- The recording media is full or it already contains the maximum number of clips (999 clips). Delete some clips (A 116)
or replace the CFast card.
Process terminated with error
- The recording media slot cover was opened while initializing the SD card using the [Complete Initialization] option.
- An error occurred while initializing the recording media. Try to initialize the recording media again. If the problem
persists, replace the recording media.
Recorded at 24.00 Hz/50.00 Hz
Check the data on the card. Initializing the card is also recommended.
- The recording media contains clips that were recorded using a system frequency different from the one currently used
by the camcorder. To record on this card, save your clips (A 122) and initialize the recording media with the
camcorder (A 38). To play back the clips on the card, change the [System Setup] > [4] (in
mode)] > [System Frequency] setting to match the recordings on the recording media.
Recording was stopped due to insufficient write speed of the memory card
- The data transfer rate was too high for the recording media in use and the recording was stopped. If trying to record on
an SD card, replace it with one rated CLASS 10.
- After repeatedly recording, deleting and editing recordings (fragmented memory), it will take longer to write data on the
recording media and recording may stop. Save your recordings (A 122) and initialize the recording media (A 38). In
the case of SD cards, initialize using the [Complete Initialization] option.
Recording was stopped
- The file control information is corrupted or there was an encoder error. As such, clips cannot be recorded. Turn off the
camcorder and back on again. Then, remove the recording media being used and reinsert it. Alternatively, replace the
recording media. If this does not solve the problem, consult a Canon Service Center.
• Corrupted file control information cannot be recovered. Recording media or clips with corrupt file control
information cannot be read by Canon XF Utility.
Some clips require data recovery.
- A data error has occurred while recording a clip and the data needs to be recovered. Open an index screen in
playback mode to recover the data (A 38).
Task in progress. Do not disconnect the power source.
- The camcorder is updating the recording media. Wait until the operation ends and do not remove the battery pack.
Too many photos. Disconnect the USB cable.
- Disconnect the USB cable. Try using a memory card reader or decrease the number of photos on the recording media
to fewer than 2,500 (Windows) or 1,000 (Mac OS). Restore the connection after a short while.
- If the dialog box appeared on the computer screen, close it. Disconnect the USB cable and then restore the
connection after a short while.
Unable to recover data
- The selected clip could not be recovered. Save your recordings (A 122), and initialize the recording media (A 38).
- Clips may not be recovered if the recording media is full. Delete some clips (A 116) to free some space.
