CHECKING THE MIDDLE DRIVEN SHAFT
ASSEMBLY
1. Check:
• middle driven gear
Galling/pitting/wear → Replace the middle
driven shaft assembly.
2. Check:
• bearings
Damage/pitting → Replace the middle drive
shaft bearing housing assembly.
3. Check:
• O-ring
• oil seal
Damage → Replace the defective part(s).
4. Check:
• universal joint movement
Rough movement → Replace the universal
joint.

ASSEMBLING THE MIDDLE DRIVE SHAFT
ASSEMBLY
1. Tighten:
• middle drive shaft nut
NOTE:
@
• Apply LOCTITE
drive pinion gear nut.
• Lock the threads on the middle drive shaft
nut by staking them with a center punch 1.
@
2. Install:
• spring retainers
NOTE:
@
While holding the spring with the middle drive
gear holder 2, compress the spring with the
damper spring compressor 1, and then install
the spring retainers.
