Chapter 1: Introduction

About this manual

This manual provides full details of how to operate and administer an i-on
Compact alarm system as a user. The manual describes:
 The front panel of the control unit and examples of peripheral devices.
 How to perform functions such as setting and unsetting the system.
 How to manage alarms.
 The options available from the user menu to carry out tasks such as
omitting zones, adding users and viewing the log. The Menu Map on
page 22 shows the available options.
An i-on Compact User Guide is also available − this is suitable for people
who simply want to gain a quick overview of the capabilities of the alarm
system and how to carry out the most common day-to-day tasks.
Other publications are available to installers − these describe topics such
as system installation, maintenance and installer menu options.

About the control unit

The control unit (Figure 1) is the central component of the alarm system.
Inside, it contains the processing unit, power supply and stand-by battery,
which keeps the alarm system operational during a temporary power
failure.
The front of the control unit includes:
 An LCD display – This shows messages, prompts and options that
guide you through the user interface.
When the system is idle (either while set or unset), the display shows
the "standby screen". For example:


