Using the desktop software — Backing up files from your handheld to your desktop
new entries, edit existing entries, and delete entries, then transfer the changes to
your handheld.

To back up files from your handheld to your desktop
1.
Insert your handheld in the cradle. If a password is enabled on your handheld,
you must type it before you can connect to your desktop. In the BlackBerry
Desktop Manager, double-click the Backup and Restore icon. The Backup and
Restore window appears.

To back up everything on your handheld, click Backup. The Select file for Full
Backup window appears. The default file name will be Backup-today's
date.ipd. Select the desired file name and location and click Save. A dialog box
displays the progress of the data transfer from your handheld to your desktop.
After the information has been saved to your desktop, you return to the Backup
and Restore window.

You can back up specific databases to your desktop by performing an
advanced backup. Refer to the "Performing an advanced backup" topic of
the Backup and Restore Online Help for more information.
You can import Address Book entries from your desktop's Address
Book to your handheld. Refer to the "Importing Address Book entries"
topic of the Backup and Restore Online Help for more information.
