Hardware options installation

Introduction

If more than one option is being installed, read the installation instructions for all the hardware options and
identify similar steps to streamline the installation process.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal
system components to cool before touching them.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to electrical components, properly ground the server before beginning
any installation procedure. Improper grounding can cause electrostatic discharge.

Rack rail option

Rack depth compatibility

Selecting a rack with the proper depth is critical to allow proper cable management and clearance for the front
bezel and rear handles/pulls.
Chassis with 1U servers is supported in a 1075 mm deep rack.
Chassis with 2U servers without a PCIe expansion option installed is supported in a 1075 mm deep rack.
Chassis with 2U servers with a PCIe expansion option installed is supported in a 1200 mm deep rack.

Installing the rack rails

The rack rails can be installed in both round- or square-hole racks. In this procedure, left and right terminology
is from the perspective of a user facing the front of the rack.
The illustrations used in this procedure show an icon on the upper right corner of the image. This icon
indicates whether the action illustrated in the image is for both round- or square-hole racks, or for either.
